Our mission with the program When
I Grow Up by KESHET Productions is to educate youth about
the different careers available to them and the paths they
need to take to acquire these careers. There is a distinct
need to have a documented map of how to explore and discover
each specific occupation. How do you become a police officer,
a deep-sea diver, or a saddle maker? We will answer these
questions for the people most affected by our abundance of
professions, and the difficulties obtaining them…the children.
When I Grow Up has
a single-tiered method of production but with two demographics,
the pre-teen and teen audiences. What makes us different from
other shows is that we will educate with entertainment.
Our program is designed to be fun! It allows us to hear about
the jobs from the people who actually do the jobs. By acquiring
our information from the people who are in these careers,
we are giving them the opportunity to help us entertain and
educate the next generation so that they will have an easier
time uncovering the mysteries of each job path. We have included
in our promo and our series a new feature. He is called “TIM”
and is our vehicle for the exploration of these careers. This
harmless adult male who lives in his mother's basement needs
to find a job. Receiving a list from his mother, he sets out
to learn about different careers in his own rather eccentric
way. Because he is not ready to face these difficult decisions
yet, he has a unique method for approaching these careers
and gets into interesting situations along the way.
Our pre-production team includes: screenwriters, a camera
person, the director, and assistant director, and we consider
only those ideas that have us giggling. It is paramount to
us that education is entertaining, and our program accomplishes
this task. We subscribe to the motto that only a program that
is fun to make will be fun to watch.
It is our goal to make the most interesting, educational,
and amusing program possible so that every young person will
have the information they need to both explore career options
and to discover their career goals in the future. |
